Versus and the Tour de France again this morning – someone yelled “Allez, Gilbert” in her room! Well, what a coincidence: they arrived in Montpellier and I’m leaving it! Out of this small town a car from the 60’s with longhorns on the front and two other things sticking out from the back passed me twice and I was about to write down the license plate…
It’s a flat stage today and once over the overpass for the trains (oh, how I do love the sound of the trains) I cycled along some marshy fields with lots of birds. Some of them even follow you and seem to say:”Go away – this is my territory.” It’s a confusing route: yesterday Geneva and Montpelier, today Bern and Paris…where the heck are we! It’s also Sunday and in this Mormon countryside the cars are parked around the churches.
Another man passing me turned down his window and asked me how heavy my lugage was? I really have no idea! Paris has a nice Tabernacle and is the oldest town around. A town named St. Charles always reminds me of one of my old-students. Now we can cycle next to Bear Lake – a huge lake bordering Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. Lots of new big houses are build here every year. Some of them have their own private beach. I intended to stop over in Fish Haven and eat some fish there, but there was no such a place to go to. And I also wanted a sports bar – to watch the cup final! So on to Utah and Garden City and the KOA.
After settling in I went to the recreation room and had the TV for me. I don’t know if the screams I gave were heard outside…USA lost – they had so many chances the first half hour and couldn’t get one goal in – even at the shoot-outs they couldn’t get the ball against the net. While Wyoming got the dark clouds and probably the thunderstorms – here at the campsite it got very windy (as usual) while I did laundry. Tomorrow is another big day over this hill in the back of me…My legs are still a bit sore.
