July 20th : Ogden - North Salt Lake or …is this a safe place?

A crystal blue sky greets me this morning. It’s not as muggy anymore as the last couple of days. The weather forecasters were right – again. I’m starting out choosing a new route for a short period, but soon I’m back on my Utah 126 I know. It parallels the Interstate and it takes us from one town to the other – it looks as if this is one big Salt Lake City! There is no real scenery here – except city scenery. At one point my colleague Nicole pops up in my mind.
Somewhat further down the road I pass the infamous Days Inn where I once had this really restless night – my neighbors nightly activities being the cause and me thinking someone was being killed next door! I will tell you now: that night I sat for half an hour in the lobby, I was laying on the ground in my motel room checking out footsteps…So if people ask me “Are you never afraid?” – the answer is “of course I am!”. A town or two further is Layton which used to be my safe harbor here – until our hotel room door was almost knocked down last year in the middle of the night. Layton is next to the Hill Air Force Base and on the ride fast planes circle the sky. Since I am making good time, I head into Super Wall – I leave this superstore with one banana! Even now I’m trying some new route – just cycle in the right direction – and find out that cycling on the frontage road is not so nice for my ears. But wait a minute – I can hear it…it’s calling my name! No DQ but Mc Donalds for a Coke float! Some more shopping now in Target and Kohls…but nothing to my taste. I could have gotten all the way in to Salt Lake City…but now I’m sleeping here in North Salt Lake – just across from a Big K-Mart, which I always link to Rain Man’s line “K mart sucks”.
