I chickened out – I almost panicked and thought of going back to Salt Lake City!!! They expected thunderstorms in the early afternoon and having done the ride already three times, I thought I was going to get stuck somewhere in the woods on the uphill. Also the thought of there being almost no traffic early in the morning (thus having a bigger chance of seeing any kind of wildlife – especially bears or mountain lions, I thought)… well I panicked! And I went south on US 89 instead of going east on UT 24. No Fish Lake … No Torrey this year! Instead I went to Marysvale. It was still kind of cool this early in the morning. I had checked the route I needed to take very quickly on the internet and off I went. Took a different route than last year and even now I was almost losing control again: where am I going? I raced a bit, getting me out of breath which I needed for some uphill. But finally I got to the point where I could get on US 89 South.
A nice canyon along the Sevier River brought my self confidence back – especially upon reaching Big Rock Candy and the café we visited last year.
I wasn’t hungry yet, so I only had something to drink. Then the last 7 miles of the day – making it in time to the Old Pines Inn – a sweet Bed and Breakfast place!
A must! Lots of people around on their ATV/UTV’s: it’s a jamboree! People come from all around to ride their vehicles around in the mountains here! It’s THE THING to do here. I just enjoy sitting on the bench of the gas station and watch all the small vehicles crisscrossing around. Getting food here is a bit more difficult: there is only next doors where they sell the Best Burgers of the West. Well, I almost didn’t have any because the café closes at 6 pm. The burger was okay, the fries … well … Anyways: there was not thunderstorm here, but looking at the black sky in the southwest where Fish Lake is… I don’t know about there! Anyways, they are expecting more storms tomorrow and I’d rather stay one more day here in Marysvale than in Circleville.
